Bob “Slim” Dunlap, former guitarist for The Replacements, has died, The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. He was 73.

According to a statement from his family, the cause of death stems from a stroke Dunlap suffered in 2012.

“It was a natural decline over the past week,” the statement reads. “Overall it was due to complications from his stroke.”

Dunlap’s family adds that he passed away while they played him his live album Thank You Dancers!, which was recorded in 2002 and released in 2020.

Dunlap joined The Replacements in 1987 in place of founding guitarist Bob Stinson, who’d left the group a year prior. He played on the final two ‘Mats albums, 1989’s Don’t Tell a Soul and 1990’s All Shook Down, before the band broke up in 1991. Dunlap then released a pair of solo records.

The Replacements reunited in 2012, several months after Dunlap’s stroke. Dunlap did not take part in the reunion, though the ‘Mats put out an EP titled Songs for Slim in support of his recovery efforts.
