COIN is no more.
The “Talk Too Much” band has broken up due to unspecified “revelations” regarding guitarist Joe Memmel and drummer Ryan Winnen.
“I believe in accountability and doing what’s right,” frontman Chase Lawrence writes in an Instagram post. “Three months ago, I made the decision to move forward with my drummer, and yesterday, I parted ways with my guitarist. Their behaviors directly conflict with my values, and I am devastated for anyone who has been affected by these actions.”
“Creating a space for love & joy through music has always been my mission,” Lawrence continues. “Discovering that this space has been compromised by the actions of others is truly heartbreaking.”
As such, Lawrence feels that “COIN can no longer continue as a band,” and all future tour dates have been canceled. Those who already purchased tickets can receive a refund at point of purchase.
“To our listeners, I am sorry for the disappointment this may bring,” Lawrence writes. “Your support has meant the world to me, and I owe it to you to be honest and decisive in addressing the situation.”
“There’s a lot to figure out about the future,” he concludes. “But I know I’m not done making music yet.”
COIN broke out in 2016 with the single “Talk Too Much,” which hit the top 10 on Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay chart. They also charted on Alternative Airplay with the 2021 single “Chapstick.”
The most recent COIN album is 2024’s I’m Not Afraid of Music Anymore.
