Original Bowling for Soup guitarist Chris Burney has left the band.
In a Facebook post, the “1985” rockers share, “It is with a heavy heart we announce that Chris Burney has made the decision to retire from his stage-right post in the band he co-founded in 1994.”
“Some recent medical developments, 30 years rocking balls and touring non-stop have made it difficult to continue,” the post concludes. “We are bummed to not have Chris by our sides, but absolutely support his decision.”
Before you ask “Who’s the other guy playing guitar in Bowling for Soup?”, the band clarifies that they will not be replacing Burney in their lineup and will instead continue on as a trio.
“You cannot replace a legend,” the post reads. “We were brothers when we started this journey…and brothers we remain.”
Burney was the only original member still in Bowling for Soup alongside founding frontman Jaret Reddick. The two are the only members to play on every Bowling for Soup record.
