Chris Martin acknowledges Coldplay is ‘very, very easy, safe target’ for haters

Disney/Randy Holmes

Plenty of people are fans of Coldplay, but plenty of others are very much not fans of Coldplay. Even if you belong to the latter group, frontman Chris Martin tells Rolling Stone that he understands.

In an interview for the magazine’s latest cover issue, Martin muses, “It would be terrible if we lived in a society where everyone had to [like the same thing].”

“We’re a very, very easy, safe target,” he says. “We’re not going to bite back.”

Martin adds that, as “four white, middle-class men from England,” he and his bandmates “deserve to take some s*** for what our people have done.”

“There’s a reason we get to play all around the world, and part of it is not necessarily very healthy,” he says.

If you are a fan of Coldplay, you can catch them on their ongoing, record-breaking Music of the Spheres world tour, which returns to the U.S. in May.
