In what may not be the most shocking turn of events, the guy who wrote “Head Like a Hole” has some negative thoughts about the music industry.
Speaking with IndieWire, Trent Reznor declares, “The culture of the music world sucks.”
“That’s another conversation, but what technology has done to disrupt the music business in terms of not only how people listen to music but the value they place on it is defeating,” the Nine Inch Nails frontman says. “I’m not saying that as an old man yelling at clouds, but as a music lover who grew up where music was the main thing.”
“Music [now] feels largely relegated to something that happens in the background or while you’re doing something else,” he continues. “That’s a long, bitter story.”
Reznor, of course, has been more involved in the film scoring world in recent years rather than in the traditional music industry. His work on the film Challengers with collaborator and NIN bandmate Atticus Ross is nominated for the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.
However, Reznor did recently say that he’s been working on new Nine Inch Nails music. His work on the upcoming Tron: Ares film is also being billed as Nine Inch Nails.
